The Penn State Master Gardeners of Bucks County will be available to answer horticultural questions at each property and provide information on the inspiration behind the planning and style of the gardens. “To celebrate our 20th Kitchen and Garden Tour, we wanted to go beyond the boundaries of historic Doylestown and raise the bar in a number of ways by branching out to Doylestown and Buckingham Townships with some wonderful houses. We are also creating a lovely setting for local artists to demonstrate their craft the day of the event,” says Carter van Dyke, Bucks Beautiful board member and chairperson for the Kitchen and Garden Tour Event. “There’s a lot going on to make the tour interesting, while helping Bucks Beautiful impact the community by targeting the proceeds for planting programs and beautifying areas throughout the county. This is what I am most excited about.” Included in the tour will be a special opportunity to visit Carousel Farm Lavender (www.carouselfarmlavender.com) on Mechanicsville Road in Buckingham, to get a behind-the-scenes view of its quaint guesthouse and private gardens. A second standout property, owned by Charles Tweedy, MD and his wife, will be magically transformed into an artist’s studio, café and gift shop for this Bucks Beautiful event. Guests will be able to view the magnificent property, carriage house and working artist’s studio. The Kitchen & Garden Tour gift shop will offer items for sale including colorful perennials, handmade pottery, hand-quilted tea cozies, handcrafted jewelry, Bucks Beautiful handmade mugs, custom-designed Bucks Beautiful Byers’ Choice Caroler Figurines, and a wide selection of garden and cookbooks. Another highlight of the tour will be vintage collectible cars strategically parked at each location. Van Dyke explains, “This year we have expanded our antique car display to include exotic show cars, which we’ve never had before.” By purchasing a Bucks Beautiful magnet for just $10 from www.bucksbeautiful.org, supporters will be entered in a raffle to win landscape accessories, a rare conifer tree, a garden gargoyle sculpture, a fork and spade by Spear & Jackson.
